Petraeus: Al-Qaida not operating in Afghanistan

Al-Qaida is no longer operating in Afghanistan, according to the chief of the US Central Command Gen. David Petraeus. He added, however, that affiliated organizations still had "enclaves and sanctuaries" in the country. Petraeus said that al-Qaida had suffered "very significant losses" in recent months in its hide-outs across the rugged, mountainous border in Pakistan. Speaking Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union," Petraeus praised Pakistan for its offensive to root out Taliban militants sheltering al-Qaida.
