The prime minister of Spain, Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, the prime minister of Italy, Romano Prodi, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel discussed the makeup of the proposed multi-national peacekeeping force in Lebanon in a telephone conversation Sunday.
A leader of Prodi's coalition said Sunday that Italy would be willing to lead the proposed 15,000-member force if asked by the United Nations.
Spain authorized a contingent of 700 soldiers last week.
