Strong earthquake hits central Peru; no major damage reported

A strong earthquake shook central Peru on Tuesday, causing people to run out of buildings in the jungle city of Pucallpa but inflicting no major damages. The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the quake had a magnitude of 6.3 and its epicenter was 58 miles (93 kilometers) north of Pucallpa, the capital of Ucayali province. Residents of tall buildings in the jungle city ran into the streets after the quake struck, but there were no immediate reports of deaths.
