UK pacifists appeal Iraq-based tax evasion case

Seven pacifists who oppose Britain's participation in the Iraq war said Wednesday they will ask the European Court of Human Rights to overturn a British court's decision that they are not entitled to withhold part of their taxes for fear it will be spent on weapons. The Appeal Court in London ruled in May that the seven are not entitled to exempt themselves from paying 10 percent of their taxes, which they claim are spent by the government on arms. "People can object to serving in the military so this just an extension of that," activist Birgit Vollm, 41, told The Associated Press.
