A man who was acquitted three years ago of giving aid to the Taliban was convicted Monday of lying to a federal grand jury about his training with a Pakistani militant group.
A jury in US District Court convicted Sabri Benkahla, 31, a US citizen, of four felony counts including perjury and obstruction of justice. He faces a maximum of 25 years in prison when he is sentenced on April 27.
Prosecutors said Benkahla lied about training he received from a group called Lashkar-e-Taiba that has since been designated a terrorist organization by the US government.
Benkahla told a grand jury that he never engaged in any combat training during a 1999 trip to Pakistan.
