"We have no choice. Matan's life is at risk. We are forced to release another clip of the video to the entire public tonight. I wish we could avoid it. In recent weeks, we have embarked on a journey to gather information and materials to understand Matan's medical condition. After meetings with survivors of captivity who met Matan, we discovered that there is a huge gap between what was presented to us and the serious medical condition he is in.
"We experienced a severe shock - while the prime minister did not even know that Matan was injured, we discovered that Matan was suffering from open burns, inflammation, infections, and fever. This, alongside clear evidence of torture and electric shocks. Therefore, we had no choice but to show the public the harsh sights.
Signs of life
In March, Hamas released a propaganda video, giving a sign of life of Angrest, who has been held in captivity in Gaza since October 7.The Angrest family, who approved publication of the video, said in a statement published by the Hostages and Missing Families Forum that they were “rocked by the footage we have just witnessed, in which our Matan is seen jaded and hopeless.
“Just as Matan fought for our country on October 7, our country should fight for him and bring him back to us immediately, together with all remaining hostages, at once. What more proof can we get to understand they are running out of time?!" the family stated.
Kidnapped from Nahal Oz
Matan, a soldier in a tank unit, was kidnapped from Nahal Oz along with his fellow soldiers, Itay Chen, Daniel Perez, and Tomer Leibovitz, all of whom were killed in battle. Their bodies were also taken into Gaza.According to the Hostages’ and Missing Families Forum, Matan was critically injured when he was captured.
