El Al is preparing to operate an airlift to return tens of thousands of passengers to Israel, following the ceasefire that went into effect Tuesday morning and the phased reopening of Ben-Gurion Airport, the airline announced in the afternoon.

The airline is expanding its flight schedule, operating its fleet around the clock to add thousands of seats in the coming days.

Most El Al passengers are currently in one of eight destinations served by the airline, with additional flights planned from Budapest and Bucharest.

Once El Al passengers are booked on evacuation flights, the airline will open flights to the general public.

The airline has fixed prices for inbound flights, which are valid until the end of June, with flights from Los Angeles now available for sale. Prices from European locations, including Larnaca, Athens, Rome, Tblisi, and London, range from $99 to $415.

The price for flights from Bangkok is set at $589, and the prices for flights from New York and Los Angeles are $649 and $699, respectively.

Israel's Airports Authority earlier in the day said it was working towards a gradual return to routine operations in the coming hours, and that it was coordinating with all airlines and operational partners at Israel's airports "to ensure an orderly and safe process for passengers."

Smaller Israeli carriers were also operating rescue flights. Arkia Airlines said it was bringing passengers back from Milan, Athens, Vienna, and Larnaca.

Israir said it would operate flights from Varna, Bulgaria on Wednesday and Baku on Friday.

Israel was also working on enabling nearly 40,000 tourists to leave Israel. Many have left via border crossings with Egypt and Jordan, as well as on boats to Cyprus.

Re-opening Ben-Gurion Airport

The Home Front Command approved Ben-Gurion Airport to resume operations of departure flights starting Monday, the Transportation Ministry said Sunday.

Departure flights are only allowed for 50 people per flight, and only 1,500 people are allowed in the airport at a time.

Israel closed its airspace at the start of Operation Rising Lion on June 13, leaving thousands of Israelis stranded outside the country.
