US Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee met with Palestinian Authority Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh in Ramallah on Tuesday, al-Sheikh confirmed on X/Twitter.

During the meeting, the two officials discussed efforts to create a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, release hostages held in Hamas terror captivity, and deliver urgent aid to Gazan civilians, al-Sheikh confirmed.

The two also discussed the situation in the West Bank, including "the severe economic and financial crisis and settler violence."

They also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations, and the "importance of the US role in achieving stability, security, and peace in the region."

Huckabee became the first Republican senior American official in years to visit Ramallah. However, officials from the Democrat Party, including then secretary of state Anthony Blinken, have visited Ramallah, with Blinken meeting al-Sheikh in February 2024.
