The family of hostage Alon Ohel, after consulting eye specialists in Israel and abroad, believes he has lost sight in his right eye, the Hostages and Missing Families Forum said Friday.
This follows Hamas’s release of a propaganda video of Ohel and Guy Gilboa-Dalal.
The family cited his frequent blinking in the video as evidence of severe difficulty focusing and maintaining his vision for extended periods.
Violating international law
“No international law permits holding an injured civilian captive without proper medical treatment,” the Ohel family said. “The responsibility for Alon’s wellbeing lies with his captors and Hamas leadership, who are obligated to preserve his life and health according to international law.”
His family said it is working with US envoy Steve Witkoff, as well as Serbian and German authorities, as Ohel carries both nationalities.
“The international community will not stand by if Alon’s medical condition deteriorates further,” they warned.
