An Arab Israeli student was stabbed to death in Kafr Kara, in what became the sector's second crime-related death on Monday.

Hussein Mazarka, 17, of Arara, was stabbed when he was fighting another student. After two hours of resuscitation attempts, Magen David Adom paramedics declared him dead at the hospital, N12 News reported.

Police said that they had arrested a suspect at the school and had recovered the knife used in the stabbing.

In the earlier instance, an 18-year-old Arab Israeli was shot dead in Arrabe in the Lower Galilee.

Qasem Asala was on his way to work at around 6:30 a.m. – and was in the car with his father – when he was shot by a man who ran towards the vehicle, fired several rounds towards Asala’s upper body, and ran.

Asala was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said a criminal investigation had been opened.

The two mark the Arab sectors' 210th and 211th victims of crime-related violence in 2025.

Arab sector crime rises across Israel

So far, 178 Arab Israelis were shot to death in 2025. Some 103 of those killed were aged 30 and under.

At this time last year, there were 198 Arab Israeli victims, marking a 7% rise, according to a tally by the NGO Abraham Initiatives. Of the 210 victims in 2025, 178 succumbed to gunshot wounds, and 103 were under the age of 30.

The last such sector death occurred on Thursday in Tamra, also in the North. Mohammed Hajazi, a man in his 50s, was shot dead in his home. His wife was moderately injured as well in the incident. The background for that case was criminal.

Later, Education Minister Yoav Kisch announced that in light of the violence, every school will hold a lesson on the "prevention of violence and respect for others" during the first period of school.

He added that he had addressed schools to review "emergency response protocols and ensure the facilities are equipped with the necessary security systems."
