A ten-year-old girl died of the flu on Tuesday night in central Israel, the Health Ministry announced amidst a wave of cases nationwide.
The child arrived at the hospital with a sore throat and a fever and was up to date on vaccinations, though had not yet been administered the flu vaccine.
The Health Ministry said that the flu epidemic in the country has persisted and spread beyond the standard threshold of cases, adding its recommendation to emphasize vaccinations for children between 6 months and 5 years.
Flu this year could be more dangerous
Health Ministry-provided data states that there are indications that this year’s flu season could be more threatening than past years, adding that data in other countries reflect the same outbreak.
422 people hospitalized with the flu last year died of the disease, including four children under 18 years old.
