IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir held an appointment ceremony for a number of newly promoted brigadier-generals on Tuesday.

Members of the General Staff Forum, IDF commanders, and the families of the new appointees attended the event.

“Today’s ceremony reflects the uniqueness of the IDF as the people’s army. Each of you has a life story; each of you grew up in a different place, yet in your eyes I see what we all share – commitment. Commitment to the homeland, to the people, to the army, to your subordinates, to your families.” Zamir said.

Brig.-Gen. Avinoam Emunah will assume the role of Advisor to the Chief of Staff for Haredi Affairs.

Emuna will coordinate directly with all branches and directorates in the IDF to advance and expand the service of haredi soldiers, including establishing new units and developing designated service tracks that support members of the ultra-Orthodox community.

He will also oversee the accompaniment of recruits prior to their military service, providing support before enlistment.

Col. Shai Siman-Tov, who currently serves in the military’s Operations Directorate, was also appointed to Brig.-Gen.

Siman-Tov was injured during Operation Protective Edge while commanding the Golani Brigade’s 12th Battalion in Gaza in 2014. He returned to active duty as a team commander at the Tactical Command College in 2015 after a lengthy recovery and rehabilitation.

“Shay, your courageous rehabilitation process will yet be told in rehabilitation departments and IDF units. You are the embodiment of the human spirit, of bravery in battle and bravery in the battle for recovery. Emunah, a determined and courageous commander, led with professionalism and responsibility in establishing the Hasmonean Brigade, which marked a breakthrough in integrating our Haredi brothers into the IDF. You were chosen to lead this historic move. I am confident in your success,” Zamir said during the ceremony.
