Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s foreign policy adviser, Ophir Falk, said in an interview with CNN’s Jim Sciutto that Israel remained highly skeptical of reported US-Iran peace talks, arguing that Tehran’s leadership had repeatedly shown it could not be trusted.

Asked why Israel doubted the diplomatic track, Falk replied: “Well, Iran always lies. We’ve learned that they always lie.”

He said Israel’s objective remained removing what he called “the existential threat posed by this ayatollah regime.” Falk added that the preferred outcome would be removing the regime itself, though he also pointed to another option: severely degrading Iran’s military power.

“Another way of doing that is to decimate their capabilities, decimate their military capabilities until they get to the Stone Age,” he said.

Falk’s remarks reflected Israel’s broader suspicion of any diplomatic opening with Tehran and suggested Jerusalem remained focused on eliminating Iran’s ability to threaten Israel, regardless of any parallel US effort to explore de-escalation.
