An eight-vehicle pileup occurred between the Iron and Ein Tut junctions on Highway 6 north on Monday morning.
Approximately 18 people were injured in the crash, of whom 10 were transported to the Hillel Yaffe Hospital in Hadera.
The crash follows a series of serious accidents on Israeli roads in recent weeks. Earlier in September, two people were killed, and six others were injured in traffic accidents across the country over one weekend, including a fatal hit-and-run on Route 553 near Moshav Porat.
On September 14, a man in his 30s was killed, and a woman in her 40s was seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision on Route 762 near Rechasim. Magen David Adom teams pronounced the man dead at the scene and evacuated the woman to Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa.
Highway 6 has also been the scene of several major accidents over the past year. In January, at least 27 passengers were injured when a bus overturned near Kiryat Gat.
The incidents come amid broader concerns over road safety in Israel. National Road Safety Authority data published in June showed that, excluding March, when traffic dropped sharply during Operation Roaring Lion, 157 people had been killed on Israeli roads in 2026 compared with 147 during the equivalent period in 2025, an increase of nearly 7%.
Israel Police announced in May that it was launching a nationwide crackdown on dangerous driving and serious traffic violations, including increased police presence, enforcement, and cooperation with the National Road Safety Authority and Transportation Ministry.
Police Commissioner Daniel Levy described road fatalities as a "national issue."
