Supermodel Bar Refaeli is calling on her millions of followers to vaccinate their children.
As flu season kicks off – and amid a deadly measles outbreak plaguing Israel – Refaeli took to her social media accounts with a message.
“On Tuesday 20/11,” Refaeli wrote, “we will all post a photo of a hand on our vaccinated shoulder. Because a vaccinated environment is a safe environment,” Refaeli added, including a hashtag combining the Hebrew words for kindergarten and vaccinated.
Refaeli is the mother of two young girls, Liv, two years old, and one-year-old Elle. She shared the photo and caption with her 2.7 million Instagram followers and 2.8 million Facebook followers.
On Monday, actor Angel Bonanni also joined the cause, posting a photo of himself with his hand on his shoulder with the same message as Refaeli, adding: “let’s take care of our little ones.” The actor and father of one played Yoni Netanyahu in 7 Days in Entebbe earlier this year, and has also been seen in the shows Absentia, Shots Fired and Condor.
The Health Ministry has urged Israelis to vaccinate against measles, which it said is “the most contagious of all infectious diseases.” The ministry said “the safest and most effective way to prevent measles and its complications is by getting vaccinated against the disease.”
In addition, the ministry recommends that the general population from six months of age and above receive a flu shot, in particular the elderly and pregnant women.
