Netanyahu: PA, international leaders must condemn attack

International leaders and the PA must condemn Friday's terrorist attack that killed a Border Police officer, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Saturday. Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman said Israel will continue to fight “cruel Palestinian terrorism” and the “incitement that feeds it,” adding that the IDF will pursue the terrorists and those who stand behind them. The PA's “brutal silence” and its refusal to condemn terrorism, while portraying the incident as if an Israeli officer killed three innocent Palestinians, proves there is “no partner [for peace] on the other side,” Liberman said. UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nickolay Mladenov responded to Netanyahu's call, saying such terrorist acts must be clearly condemned by all. “I am appalled that, once again, some find it appropriate to justify such attacks as 'heroic,' said Mladenov. “They are unacceptable and seek to drag everyone into a new cycle of violence.” Following the attack, Netanyahu held a series of telephone consultations with Liberman and Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan, as well as with the heads of the IDF, Mossad, Military Intelligence and the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories unit. The Prime Minister's Office then decided to halt all special Palestinian entry permits to Israel issued for Ramadan, though worshipers from within the Green Line can continue to access the Aksa Mosque compound as usual. Entry permits for the family members of the terrorists also have been rescinded, the office said. IDF units have surrounded and sealed off the West Bank village of Deir Abu Mash'al northwest of Ramallah where the three assailants lived. Netanyahu is also considering creating a “sterile area” around the Old City's Damascus Gate in Jerusalem.
