Theater faux pas: Netanyahu allegedly booed at Broadway show in New York

On the tail end of his recent US visit, the PM took time away from politics to attend a cultural event - the hit musical Hamilton.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was booed and jeered at upon arrival to a popular Broadway show Saturday during premier's visit to New York earlier this week.
On the tail end of his US visit for the United Nations General Assembly debate, the prime minister took time away from politics to attend a cultural event - a sold-out performance of the hit musical Hamilton.
Security personnel ushered a pair of theater-goers out of the Richard Rodgers Theater in Manhattan after they attempted to push their way through Netanyahu's security detail, the British Daily Mail reported Monday.

According to the report, various members of the audience also took to social media to rant about Netanyahu's presence at the show, claiming that he had arrived late and sparked the uproar.
A witness who was allegedly at the venue said that the two women ordered to leave the theater shouted "Free Palestine!" as they exited the premises.

"It's hard enough getting to see Hamilton on a Saturday night: Netanyahu just in front added airport security," another apparent witness, Greg Callus wrote on Twitter in reference to Netanyahu's large security envoy.
Days prior to the playhouse incident, Netanyahu was met by intermittent applause during his speech Thursday to the UN General Assembly plenum. While in New York, the premier also met with both US presidential candidates, Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
Netanyahu's vast security entourage was in the spotlight throughout his New York trip, with entertainment news outlet Page Six reporting that the premier had made a spectacle when some 20 guards escorted him to the restroom while he was dining at the upscale Harry Cipriani restaurant with his wife, Sara.
Netanyahu returned from New York to Israel on Monday.
