Netflix provides sneak peek of 'The Angel'

Film about Egyptian who spied for Israel to premiere next month.

A film about an Egyptian who spied for Israel – directed by Israeli Ariel Vromen - is slated to premiere on Netflix on September 14.
The streaming giant released its first trailer for the film, titled The Angel, last week. The movie, starring Marwan Kenzari, is based on Uri Bar-Joseph’s bestseller by the same name.
The film tells the story of Ashraf Marwan, an Egyptian billionaire who spied for Israel and died in a mysterious fall in 2007 from the balcony of his London home. Israeli Sasson Gabai plays Anwar Sadat (he also played an Egyptian in 2007’s The Band’s Visit), and Ori Pfeffer portrays Mossad director Zvi Zamir.
The trailer for the film shows it set in 1972, one year before the Yom Kippur War. It is not clear from the sneak peek if the movie will address Marwan’s death.
 
Vromen shared the trailer and movie poster on his Instagram feed, writing “Very excited to share this! The Angel coming out September 14th only on Netflix! I’m very proud of this Netflix original film.”
The director then added a post with a photo of Pfeffer from the set, writing: “It’s always an amazing experience working with the talented Ori Pfeffer. I’m so proud of you brother for getting in the big shoes of Zvi Zamir, the former head of the Mossad.”

In response to Vromen’s post, Scottish actor Gerard Butler, a close friend of the director, praised the film.
“Lovin the look, lovin the feel, lovin the story,” Butler wrote on Instagram. “But having seen the movie I can guarantee it way surpasses how it looks in the trailer. This is taut fascinating little classic you put together brother!!!! Proud of you.”
Last month, Butler visited Israel to spend time with Vromen, who he met while shooting a short film back in 2000.
