Game on: Israeli kids are going back to school

"There will be no strike tomorrow morning," the chairman of the teachers association said Sunday.

High school will resume as scheduled on Monday, after the one-day warning strike the previous day.
The short strike eliminated the need for an extended strike, after the Teachers Association met with the Finance Ministry on Sunday afternoon.
Following the meeting, Ran Erez, chairman of the Teachers Association said in a statement: “There will be no strike tomorrow morning. We will meet with representatives of the Finance and Education ministries as well as of local government for several hours in order to run data that will allow us to get a clearer picture of how the new salary proposals will work for the new and senior teachers.
“If they work, there will be no need to continue the strike; if not, we will continue our struggle until we reach the expected results.”
“This is not just about our salary requirements but also our demands for improving our terms of employment and teaching standards,” he said.
The association demanded that new teachers receive a starting monthly salary of NIS 8,000 and that veteran teachers receive a raise of between NIS 600 and NIS 800.
These salary requirements were the original cause of the strike as negotiations failed between the Teachers Association and the Education and Finance ministries in December 2016.
