Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion told 50 heads of cultural institutions in the capital that the cultural budget would be doubled from NIS 27 million to NIS 58 million, as he promised during his campaign.When added to the Ministry of Culture's budget for the Holy City, the total cultural budget will be NIS 108 million.The heads of the cultural institutions presented to the mayor several challenges they face and discussed the implications of those challenges on the city’s cultural scene. Lion said he would work with the staff of the city’s cultural division to prepare a five-year plan that would best utilize the new budget and consider the needs of local cultural institutions and students.“Today we are starting a collaboration that will last for at least the coming years, said Lion, “in which, with God's help, we will see the fruits of our joint work.”Lion took office on Dec. 4. This was his first meeting between Lion and Jerusalem’s cultural directors.
