Netanyahu media adviser blasted for ‘sexist’ comments against Shaked

A Likud campaign manager and adviser to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has come under fire for what was described as a sexist remark he fired off on Twitter at New Right leader Ayelet Shaked on Thursday.

Yonatan Urich posted a picture of the cover of Thursday’s Yediot Aharonot, which featured a full-page picture of Shaked with her hair flowing behind her, and outtakes from an interview she gave the newspaper.

“I got Blazer early this week,” Urich commented snidely, referring to an Israeli monthly men’s magazine that sports front-page photos of scantily-clad models.

Shaked responded to the jibe stating, “I want to point out that this is the first time in the history of the State of Israel that a woman is leading a right-wing party. Apparently it’s hard to get used to this.”

A New Right spokesman called Urich’s tweet “sexist,” while numerous commentators blasted Netanyahu’s adviser, calling on him to delete the tweet and slamming it as “low.” Others said the Likud was clearly “under hysterical pressure” over Shaked’s return to the political fore.

Several journalists weighed in on Urich’s tweet as well, including haredi reporter Mani Geira Schwartz, who described Shaked as “an important voice on the Right,” and that it was a mistake for Likud to turn Shaked into an enemy.
