Police seize hundreds of kilograms of smuggled tobacco
The tax the smugglers tried to avoid when sneaking the tobacco in the country would have been more than NIS 1 million.

Police confiscated hundreds of kilograms of smuggled tobacco that had literally been swept under the rug on Tuesday, according to the Tax Authority.Border Police stopped a truck driver at a checkpoint and found 24 packages of tobacco hidden in between carpets on Tuesday near Ma'aleh Adumim.The tax the smugglers tried to avoid when sneaking the tobacco in the country would have amounted to more than NIS 1 million.The truck driver was arrested before on the suspicion of smuggling goods, but was released at the request of the Department of Customs and VAT in order to continue the investigation.
