Sea of Galilee extreme fishing teams compete in silence for 125 hours
So far 153 carp have been caught and released, with the prize fish reaching the weight of 11.28 kg.

The Sea of Galilee, Israel's largest freshwater body, is currently host to a world class carp fishing competition.The event, hosted by the Israeli Carp Fishing Association, features 14 teams that hail from the US, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Israel. The teams are each allocated a fishing space where they can also pitch their tents and build fires to keep warm.Each team features two-to-three fishermen who takes turns going after the carp. Over the length of the competition, they will fish in one spot for 125 hours straight. The teams must keep quiet so as not to scare away the fish.In 2012, a carp was caught weighing 16.2 kg, a record that remains unbeaten. However, the contest continues until Friday, so anything can still happen. So far, 153 carp have been caught and released, with the prize fish reaching the weight of 11.28 kg.European lakes freeze during winter, but the Sea of Galilee does not, making the water a perfect place for fishermen to catch carp and compete against each other. In addition, the number of carp in the Sea of Galilee is steadily rising, and the current winter conditions are ideal for the sport.The Israeli winners in this competition will represent Israel in the 2018 world fishing contest in France.
