Paralympic rower Moran Samuel and judoka Sagi Muki were among the winners in last night’s Israel sportsperson of the year award for 2015. Samuel who claimed a gold medal at the World Rowing Championships this year, won the female Paralympic of the year award, while Muki, who was crowned as judo European champion, took the men’s Olympic title.The ceremony, organized by the Ministry of Culture and Sport, combined for the first time the annual awards handed out by the Olympic Committee of Israel, Paralympic Committee and Ayelet, the Federation of Non-Olympic Competitive Sport in Israel.Hand cyclist Kobi Leon claimed the men’s Paralympic award, while triple jumper Hanna Knyazyeva-Minenko, who won a silver medal at the world championships, won the women’s Olympic award.Maccabi Tel Aviv midfielder Eran Zahavi was named footballer of the year, with Omri Casspi being selected as the basketball player of 2015.David Blatt was picked as coach of the year, while kickboxer Nili Block and Ran Cohen (Jiu-jitsu) took home women’s and men’s non-Olympic honors, respectively.Voting continues through tomorrow for The Jerusalem Post Sports personality of 2015.
