Dudi Sela faces No. 1 seed Jack Sock in the second round of the Atlanta Open on Thursday after winning his first match since retiring injured in the third round of Wimbledon two-and-a-half weeks ago.The 32-year-old Israeli, ranked No. 74 in the world, defeated Russia’s Konstantin Kravchuk (124) 7-5, 6-2 in the first round in Atlanta on Tuesday, but faces a far sterner test against Sock, who received a bye into the second round.Sock, who is the highest ranked American at No. 19 in the world, will be playing for the first time since losing in the second round of Wimbledon.After reaching the third round of Wimbledon for the first time since 2009 and also winning a warm-up event in Nottingham, Sela is hoping to get the North American hardcourt season off to a strong start in Atlanta.Sela, who was forced to retire while trailing Grigor Dimitrov by two sets at Wimbledon, didn’t play in Atlanta last year, but he reached the final of the tournament in 2014 before losing in the quarterfinals two years ago.In other tennis news, 12-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic will miss the rest of the season to recover from injury, the Serbian confirmed on his Facebook page on Wednesday.The 30-year-old former world No. 1 retired with an elbow injury during his Wimbledon quarterfinal against Tomas Berdych this month.
