The United with Israel pro-Israel online and social media network celebrated its three-millionth Facebook friend in style last week with a conference in Jerusalem attended by former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, who ran unsuccessfully for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008.
Huckabee was honored as supporter No. 3,000,000 at the event, which was also attended by Shas MK Nissim Ze’ev, author and Jerusalem Post columnist Caroline Click, and senior UWI staff.
UWI describes itself as a global, grassroots movement dedicated to building a large network of pro-Israel activists to foster global unity with Israel through social media.
In 2012 it celebrated it’s one-millionth member, who happened to be Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, after being founded only two years earlier by businessman Michael Gerbitz Speaking at the celebration on Wednesday, Huckabee said there are several hundred million supporters of Israel who just had not logged on to the Facebook page and that UWI must continue its efforts to reach out to them.
“There is no other explanation for Israel other than God having intervened on behalf of his people,” said Huckabee in a speech that was replete with religious sentiment.
“I have seen the fulfillment of a biblical prophecy come true before my very eyes, and the dry bones have come to life and the desert has bloomed,” said the pastor and former governor.
“At a time when there are leaders in this world, including some in my own country, who want to bring everything into some kind of ridiculous moral equivocation... there is a distinct difference between good and evil, and Israel is a good country with good people, because it has a good and godly foundation.”
Huckabee said that “radical Islamist jihadism is the most sinister danger that faces our entire world today,” targeting Israel and ultimately the US.
“Being united with Israel for me is more than about pushing a button on a laptop, however. It means we’re committed, committed to getting the voice of reason and truth out to the world.”
Ze’ev warmly thanked Huckabee for his committed support, calling him “a strong ally and true friend of Israel,” unafraid to tell the truth.
“Here we have a lover of Israel, a true friend of Israel,” Ze’ev said. “We are in very tough times right now, our enemies surround us and everyone want to destroy us.
We see radical Islam, death in the region, Islam surrounds us and we need much support at home and abroad.”
