Two people were killed and another was seriously injured in separate road accidents overnight Friday. In an accident in Zichron Yaacov, 17-year-old Yonatan Ezra Lawrencea was killed, and a passenger seriously hurt when the car in which they were traveling overturned. Rescue teams arrived at the scene of the accident and worked to extract the driver and passenger from the vehicle, which was severely damaged in the accident. The preliminary police investigation suggested that the 17-year-old driver lost control over the car. Several hours earlier, a 16-year-old boy was killed when he was hit by a car on Route 412, at the Sofriah Junction between Or Yehuda and Beit Dagan. The boy, who initially was rushed to Assaf Harofeh Hospital, later died from his wounds. The 18-year-old driver was detained for questioning, and tests showed he was not under the influence of alcohol. Police assessed that the pedestrian killed may have been crossing the junction at a red light.
