2 sought in US robbery of Israeli diamond dealer

Two men were being sought after robbing a gem merchant of $250,000 worth of diamonds, police said. The merchant, of Karkur, Israel, and whose identity has not been released, was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday morning in the parking lot of a motel in the Detroit suburb. Police say the suspects knew the man was carrying a cache of diamonds. "It appears they knew his travel plans and knew he had the diamonds," Chief John Werth told The Detroit News. "He deals in diamonds locally. He's been coming here for about three years." The victim was not injured, but one of the suspects stuck a semiautomatic handgun against his ribcage.
