Ashkenazi: Our enemy is trying to put periphery residents at the front

"In every kind of conflict, the threat to the home front grows and [it] becomes part of the front," IDF Chief of General Staff Gabi Ashkenazi said on Sunday during the 2008 Herzliya Conference.
"We see this every day in the Gaza periphery towns. The enemy is trying to put the home front into this equation," said Ashkenazi.
