Labor MK Ami Ayalon refused a proposal by party leader Ehud Barak to become the minister of education, Channel 10 reported.
Ayalon recently lost the party chair to Barak in a tight race which lasted for two rounds of primary elections, two weeks apart.
Ehud Barak, who won the party chair by a narrow margin, was not an active Labor member during the current government's tenure and is therefore not a member of Knesset.
The current minister of Education is Yuli Tamir.
