Ayalon: Tensions with Washington over settlements will subside

A day after US President Barack Obama's speech in Cairo, Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon stressed Friday that Israel would abide by the international agreements it had signed, adding that he believed the tensions with Washington over West Bank settlements would subside. He emphasized, however, that Israel would not give up on construction required for natural growth in settlement blocs. Concerning a two-state solution for the conflict with the Palestinians, Ayalon said that Israel was not ruling out any solution, but it must first consider what concessions would be made by the other side. Ayalon was speaking after meeting members of the Obama administration and congressmen in Washington, Israel Radio reported.
