An eight-year-old Beduin boy died Friday morning of a stray gunshot to his head. The boy and his younger brother were allegedly playing with their father's licensed gun near Hura in the Negev. Family members evacuated the mortally wounded child to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba, where he was pronounced dead. Police arrived at the site of the incident and have launched an investigation. The deceased boy's father has been detained under suspicion of causing death through negligence. Charges might be pressed against him. In 2005, 16-year-old Bat Yam resident Iliya Shigalov was accidentally killed by his friend while the two were playing with a gun. Around the same time, Dima Slonimsky of Migdal Haemek was accidentally shot and killed while playing with an M-16 rifle with two friends. Slonimsky was 15 at the time.
