Dozens of angry people protesting electricity rationing blocked a major intersection south of this capital Sunday forcing Lebanese troops to shoot in the air to disperse the crowd, security officials said. One person was killed in the incident, a local television station reported.
Scores of troops arrived shortly afterward and opened fire in the air to disperse the demonstrators, they said.
NBN television, a station close to parliament speaker Nabih Berri, said an official with his Amal group was killed Sunday at the protest. The death could not immediately be independently confirmed.
