Beit shemesh

A train crashed into a bulldozer near Beit Shemesh Sunday, lightly injuring 31 passengers, police and rescue officials said. The early morning accident took place after the bulldozer got stuck on the train tracks on a dirt road at a quarry about three kilometers before the Beit Shemesh railway station. The driver of the bulldozer had attempted to cross the rail tracks after the highway barrier had already started to descend. An Israel Railways spotter who was on location reported the incident, but his warning was not in time to prevent the accident due to the imminent arrival of the train, which had left Jerusalem at 7 a.m. and was due to terminate at Beit Shemesh. The injured passengers were taken to various Jerusalem hospitals. A police investigation of the accident was under way. Six months ago, five people were killed and dozens of others were injured in a train accident near Netanya. Sybil Ehrlich contributed to this report.
