Eight soldiers killed in Hizbullah attacks on border

Four die after tank explodes; Rescue helicopter targeted by anti-aircraft missile; Three wounded in exchange of fire with Hizbullah operatives.

Eight IDF soldiers were killed Wednesday in a Hizbullah attack on IDF forces patrolling the Lebanese border, it was released for publication. Three soldiers riding in a Hummer jeep were also killed, while two other soldiers in the same jeep were kidnapped. Four other soldiers died when the tank in which they were riding blew up. Three soldiers who set out to rescue them were seriously wounded. One succumbed to his wounds later Wednesday afternoon. In addition, two soldiers were seriously wounded and one lightly wounded in an exchange of fire with the Hizbullah operatives. The attack came two and a half weeks after Cpl. Gilad Shalit was kidnapped during a coordinated attack on IDF forces at Kerem Shalom on the Gaza border.
