Fifty officers to be punished for money scandal

An air force major was relieved of duty Monday afternoon for playing the lead role in a financial scandal involving other soldiers from his unit. The IDF attorney's office decided to release the officer, who had transferred money belonging to soldiers from his unit into the stock market on their behalf. The attorney's office said that a complaint would be filed against him at a later date. Fifty other officers and non-commissioned officers were expected to be court-marshaled for transferring money to the major, who at the time of the alleged incident was a commander at the base. Air Force commander, Maj. -Gen. Eliezar Shkedy, decided to relieve an additional officer, the base commander, of his position and to have him court marshaled, but not to dismiss him from the military.
