General staff presents war reports to Olmert

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert met Thursday evening for some four hours with the IDF's general staff to hear the findings of the various committees set up to draw conclusions from the summer's war in Lebanon. Some 50 committees were set up inside the IDF to investigate and evaluate the army's performance during the war. Former Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. (res.) Dan Shomron presented Olmert with the conclusions of a committee he headed that looked into the overall performance of the general staff during the war. Incoming chief of staff Gabi Ashkenazi, according to government sources, will now be expected to implement the lessons drawn from the war.
