Goose growers demand compensation from State

Goose growers came to the Prime Minister's Office on Sunday to protest against the absence of compensation received from the Finance Ministry following the shutting down of the goose fattening industry according to a High Court order. A representative of the goose growers told Channel 1 that it was acceptable if the State found goose fattening contrary to animal cruelty laws, but that they must provide the workers, put out of work by such an order, with compensation. The PMO responded that compensation was not called for, but that a Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Commerce team would be established to consider alternatives - such as loans and helping the workers find new employment.
