Activists of the Green Course (MEGAMA YERUKA) environmentalist movement are to stage a series of protest actions at Lake Kinneret
on Friday to press for free public access for those on foot to all beaches.
Green Course spokesman Shai Golub said activists would unfurl a 600-meter-long strip of cloth at the Biraniki beach, south of Tiberias
, as a symbol of the need for a 56-kilometer walking trail all around the lake that would cut through the beaches and thereby give the public free access.
Activists, with banners and placards denouncing exorbitant fees charged for access to private beaches, also plan a demonstration in several boats on the lake itself, as well as a flight over the Kinneret by an ultra-light plane.
The demonstrations on Friday will culminate three consecutive days of activities by the environmentalists, in which they also distributed explanatory leaflets to holiday-makers as well as residents of Tiberias.
