Haifa's high school teachers declare strike

A strike was called for Thursday in all high schools in Haifa, and a slow-down was also expected in the city's middle schools where teachers are members of the Secondary School Teachers Association. The organization is striking in protest over what they call the government's "protracted" salary negotiations. In addition, teachers nationwide have decided not to accompany field trips or pupil social events, not to offer matriculation tutoring, and not to assist learning-disabled pupils. However, teachers have agreed to take part in Holocaust Memorial Day and Remembrance Day ceremonies, and will accompany the annual class trips to Poland.
