Israel has made new proposals to secure a deal for the release of captured IDF soldier Cpl. Gilad Schalit and Hamas is prepared to discuss them, the group's Gaza spokesperson Sami Abu Zuhri said Tuesday. In an interview with the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jareeda, quoted by Israel Radio, Zuhri commended the Egyptian mediation team scheduled to return soon to the Gaza Strip. "We are prepared to discuss a deal for Gilad Schalit with Egyptian supervision," he said. On Saturday a spokesperson for Hamas's military wing warned that 'many terrible surprises' awaited the IDF should Israel launch a wide-scale operation in the Gaza Strip. However, speaking about the fate of Schalit, the spokesperson emphasized that Hamas had no intention of harming the captive, even if Israel invades the Strip. He added that the group would not offer any more information about the condition of Schalit until Israel answered their demands for a prisoner release.
