An undercover IDF unit shot and killed a senior Fatah Tanzim gunman in Bethlehem early Monday morning while trying to arrest him.
He was identified as 31-year-old Raed Abayat - Tanzim leader in Bethlehem and wanted for his involvement in the murder of at least two Israelis. He was armed with an M-16 rifle.
The elite troops surrounded Abayat's hideout and called on him to come out. Abayat refused and was shot while trying to escape.
The unit discovered more weapons in the house and arrested a second Tanzim operative who was hiding with Abayat.
Abayat had been on the most wanted list since 2002 due to his involvement in the murder of Avi Boaz - shot dead while driving near Beit Sakhour - and the murder of police officer Moshe Dayan who was shot as he drove in the Judean Desert near the Marsaba Monastery, east of Bethlehem.
Later Monday, IDF troops shot at two Palestinians who tried cutting the West Bank security fence not far from the Kalandiya Crossing in northern Jerusalem.
Palestinians said that Muhammad Na'ama, 13, was killed in the incident after he and a companion threw rocks at a soldier.
An army spokesperson confirmed that troops opened fire at Na'ama but only after he ignored their calls to stop cutting the security fence.
Fourteen terror suspects were arrested during arrest operations throughout the West Bank overnight.
