Soldiers shot three Palestinians as they attempted to cross the northern Gaza security fence opposite Kibbutz Nir Am on Saturday night. Palestinian sources said an 18-year-old youth was killed and the other two wounded. According to the army, warning shots fired in the air failed to deter the three, who were spotted crawling towards Israel. When they reached the security fence, soldiers shot at them. The army did not rule out the possibility that one of the attempted infiltrators may have been killed. The incident brought the number of Palestinians caught attempting to infiltrate into Israel from Gaza over the weekend to 13. Ten unarmed Palestinians were caught attempting to infiltrate into Israel from the Gaza Strip over the weekend. On Friday night, soldiers arrested four Palestinians caught in two separate instances attempting to cross into Israel from northern Gaza. On Saturday, six Palestinians were caught in the same area. Since the disengagement from Gaza, security forces have arrested 30 unarmed Palestinians attempting to sneak into Israel. In weekend operations in the West Bank, security forces arrested 10 wanted men affiliated with Hamas and Islamic Jihad. In Nablus where troops have intensified operations following Thursday's suicide bomb attack in Tel Aviv, troops arrested seven of the fugitives. During the operation, shots were fired a number of times at soldiers, but no one was wounded and no damage reported. At the instructions of Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz, the army has tightened the blockade around the city, and has also beefed up its presence in the areas where the security fence has yet to be completed. Mofaz also instructed the army to intensify its operations in northern Samaria against terror cells. On Friday afternoon, a firebomb was thrown at an Israeli car traveling near Eilon Moreh in northern Samaria. No one was wounded and no damage reported. Meanwhile in Bil'in, west of Ramallah, where demonstrators gather weekly to protest the construction of the security fence, 15 protesters were wounded when refusing to leave the site declared a closed military zone by the army. According to the IDF, hundreds ignoring the order imposed on the area approached the site where construction work is under way and began clashing with security forces. In several instances, stones were thrown at troops, forcing them to use tear gas and rubber bullets to repel the protesters.
