IDF, police gear up for Hebron market evacuation

The IDF and police are preparing to evacuate Jewish settlers from an abandoned Palestinian marketplace in Hebron on Tuesday morning, Israel Radio reported. Three thousand security personnel will participate in the removal of settlers who arrived at two stalls next to the Jewish Avraham Avinu complex. The army was trying to come to an agreement with the settlers so as not to be forced to use physical methods of evacuating them. Protestors who had consulted with their rabbis decided not to leave voluntarily, said the report. Settlers claimed that they left the area a year and a half ago after being promised by the Judea and Samaria Division commander that they would be permitted to return when legal procedeedings came to an end.
