IDF to end defense of northern border communities

The IDF will notify communities on Israel's northern border that, starting next week, it will stop providing troops to guard them. Eitan Davidi, chairman of the communities' council, said in response to the IDF's announcement that it amounted to criminal neglect of the communities. According to the IDF, the defense of the northern communities will be based on civilian defense, including a readiness squad, a circumference fence, an alert system and patrol vehicles. According to Israel Radio, regional security of the border area will remain in IDF hands.
