Israeli concert pianist found dead in Belgium

Police said Friday they were investigating the slaying of an Israeli concert pianist found battered to death this week in his Brussels apartment building. Benjamin Rawitz, 60, appeared to have been attacked during an attempted robbery, but officers were still investigating his death and "all options were open," police spokesman Jos Colpin said. A neighbor found Rawitz's body in the basement of their apartment building in downtown Brussels on Tuesday morning, Colpin said. The musician's car appeared to have been stolen and was involved in two accidents in the capital the previous night, police said. Witnesses reported seeing two men running from the car after the second accident, authorities said. An official at the Israeli Embassy in Brussels said it had no further details about the killing or funeral plans.
