J'lem city inspectors to undergo self-defense course after wave of attacks

Jerusalem Mayor Uri Lupolianski has instructed all municipal inspectors to undergo a self-defense course and arm themselves with tear gas in the wake of a series of attacks on city inspectors, the city said Tuesday. Meanwhile, a Jerusalem court has sentenced an Arab teen to 18 months in jail for taking part in a violent assault on city inspectors in east Jerusalem in March, the municipality said. The two inspectors were attacked by a group of Arab rioters and pelted with stones as they drove down a major east Jerusalem thoroughfare. The assault, which was captured by TV cameras, brought to mind some of the worst Arab rioting in the city from the first intifada.
