J'lem Police authorizes parade but not 'event'

Jerusalem Police Chief Cmdr. Ilan Franco told the High Court of Justice Thursday that the police would permit the gay pride parade to take place despite the firefighters' strike, which would prevent fire trucks from being deployed along the parade route. Franco, however, did not authorize the post-parade "event" slated to take place in Liberty Bell Park. The police chief remarked that on-hand firefighting services were not one of the conditions issued by the police for the parade to proceed, adding that rescue services were the responsibility of city hall. Franco, therefore, thrust the decision regarding the "happening" upon the municipality, which, on its part, would not issue a permit for the Liberty Bell Park event.
