Karadi: Crime down 6% in first quarter of 2006

Police Inspector-General Moshe Karadi said Sunday that during the first quarter of 2006 the crime rate in Israel dropped by six percent. In figures he presented, property crimes dropped by nine percent, while violent crimes dropped by four percent. Nevertheless, there was a 23% increase in the number of youths carrying knives. According to Israel Radio, there was a five percent drop in car thefts, and a 4.5% drop in the number of car accidents.
