Shai Galili, a Likud Knesset candidate, appealed to the Knesset legal advisor Friday evening to determine whether Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's Kadima movement was a faction or a party.
If Kadima were to be defined as a faction, then members such as MK Dalia Itzik and MK Haim Ramon, who resigned from the Labor list without quitting the Knesset, would not be allowed to run for the upcoming parliamentary elections, according to a certain legal interpretation.
On the other hand, Army Radio reported, if Sharon's political constellation were to be defined a party, it would not be eligible for Knesset funding or for preferred broadcasting time, as are offered exclusively to factions by election laws.
